ORANGEFIELD — After a high-flying start to their 2018 campaign, the Orangefield Bobcats will look to continue their momentum as they will head to Livingston to battle the Lions in non-district action Friday night in Livingston.

The Bobcats (1-0) got off to roaring start to the season by burying the Houston KIPP Generations Collegiate Jaguars 61-0 in their home opener.

They will hit the road to face some angry Lions this week. Livingston got drubbed by the Shepherd Pirates 68-7.

The Bobcats, who have made the move down to Class 3A, will look to continue to improve in a short non-district schedule. They will visit Shepherd next week, then get their bye before opening up District 12-3A Division I play on the road at rival Buna Sept. 28.

Orangefield was able to push around the Jaguars at will last week with their vaunted rushing attack and a stifling defense that returned eight starters off last year’s 4A playoff unit.

Orangefield piled up over 400 yards of total offense with more than 360 of it coming on the ground as they built up a 48-0 lead early in the third quarter that led to a running clock.

Quarterback Mason Gonzales helped run a smooth offense as all of the Bobcat backs saw plenty of action led by the likes of Quy Tsan, Blake Bradley, Kade Grozier and Kadeon Evans.

Meanwhile, KIPP simply could not get anything going on offense as the Bobcat defense held the Jaguars to 10 total yards.

The Bobcats will face a Lions team that is trying to get out of a tailspin. The Lions have dropped down to the Class 4A ranks from 5A and suffered a 0-9 campaign last year as first-year head coach Finis Vanover will look to turn things around.

The Lions returned eight offensive starters but struggled mightily in their opener against Shepherd.

Jared Seagroves is guiding the Lions at quarterback and they also feature running back Joe Lewis and wideout Jaylen Harrell.

Senior linebacker Jonathan Hammond will look to help the Lion defense try to bounce back this week while Harrell will try to guide a young secondary.

The Lions will visit Liberty next week.
