Recycle it! It seems to be the best kept secret in Orange that we can recycle. We don’t have curbside recycling but we have drop off recycling at the old landfill on FM 1442 next to the Expo Center. There is no charge and at present it is open Monday to Saturday from 7 a.m. – 5 p.m. Good news, you don’t have to sort the recycles! Just collect those recycles in a box, a bin or a bag.

Yes it may be out of the way for some but FM 1442 is the Bridge City exit off I10 which is on the way to Beaumont where you go to see a movie, to shop or to a Doctor’s appointment so pack those recycles in your car then and it won’t be out of the way. The address is 112656 FM 1442 which is about ½ mile from I10. After turning in, stop at the little station house and tell the worker you are going to recycle and he sends you on.

Here is a list of what you can recycle:

*Plastic 1-5 and 7 (water bottles, detergent containers, etc. Look for a triangle usually on the bottom with a number in it. Number 6 is Styrofoam that they don’t take.)

*Cardboard

*Paper board (cereal boxes)

*Waxed cartons (milk and juice)

*Paper (wrapping, computer, junk mail, grocery receipts, magazines, phone directories, price tags)

*Metal cans (vegetable and fruit)

*Aluminum cans (You can get money for them at various places, but not here.)

The things you recycle don’t go to the landfill, but are sorted and sent to companies that use them to make products we need. The things in your garbage can go to the closest landfill to Orange County which is in Newton. The more we send to the landfill the sooner it reaches capacity and closes. If this happens where would Orange County’s garbage go?

I hope you will consider recycling, because it is the right thing to do to be kind to the earth. You will be so surprised how little is in you trash can on garbage day!
