Lady Bobcats swarm past Lady Cardinals

ORANGEFIELD — Pressuring Bridge City early and often, the Orangefield Lady Bobcats stormed to a District 22-4A opening 63-35 win over the Lady Cardinals on a chilly night at Bobcat Gym.
The Lady Bobcats forced the Lady Cardinals into 18 first-half turnovers as they zipped to a 40-18 lead and never looked back.
Emmi Lummus had a strong game for the Lady Bobcats, especially in the first half. Lummus finished with a game-high 23 points. She scored 18 of them in the first 16 minutes. She connected on six field goals and went a superb 11-of-13 from the free-throw line.
The Lady Bobcats jumped on Bridge City early, utilizing a 19-7 run in the first quarter with Lummus scoring nine points.
Orangefield then went on a 21-11 jaunt in the second quarter. Lummus tallied nine more points. Orangefield post Tatum Garlington had five points and six rebounds in the quarter. Garlington finished with seven points and eight rebounds.
Madison Fischer, who finished with six points and eight rebounds for the Lady Cardinals, had four points in the second quarter.
The Lady Bobcats outscored the Lady Cardinals 16-9 in the third quarter as guard Paris Fregia had the hot hand. Fregia, who finished with 13 points, tallied eight points in the third, including two three-pointers. She also finished with eight rebounds.
Skylar Matson had an excellent all-around game for Orangefield as well, especially on the defensive end. She finished with five points and eight boards while Faith Fregia chimed in with seven points.
Reyna Owens and Kassidy Wilbur each finished with seven points and five rebounds for the Lady Cardinals while Mason Tyler contributed seven points. Hannah Wiegreffe added five rebounds.
The Lady Bobcats finished with a 37-30 rebounding edge.
Bridge City finished with 27 turnovers while the Lady Bobcats committed 13.
Orangefield got it done at the free-throw line while the Lady Cardinals had their struggles.
The Lady Bobcats finished a stout 20-of-26 from the charity stripe while Bridge City managed to go just 8-of-21.
The Lady Bobcats will remain at home Tuesday when they welcome in the Hamshire-Fannett Lady Longhorns. The Lady Cardinals will look to bounce back as they host the Silsbee Lady Tigers.
