The Combined 7^th and 8^th Grade B Team Orangefield Bobcats traveled to Huffman on Tuesday night to take on the Falcons.  The Bobcats played a pretty good game on defense, but allowed a couple of big plays for touchdowns.  Defensively, Orangefield was led by linebackers, Dakota Williford, and Bryer Gray who were all over the field making plays.  The offense struggled to move the ball against a stingy Falcon defense, but QB, Roeh Burton did manage to spring loose for a score.  Other notable performers in the 14-8 loss were Dayne Bellard, Jon Small, Brayden Bryant, and Liam Faulkner.

The Orangefield Bobcats 7^th Graders went on the road for the second consecutive week to take on the Mauriceville Panthers in what turned out to be a decisive 30-0 victory.  Like previous weeks, The Bobcats wasted no time getting into the endzone as Hunter Ashworth took his first carry of the game 38 yards off the right side for a Bobcat touchdown.  After a Panther fumble on the ensuing kickoff, the Bobcats got right back to work on the offensive side.  However, instead of another quick score, the Bobcats methodically moved the ball down the field on an 8 play drive that ate up close to 5 minutes of clock.  After a couple of great runs by Dwight Davis and Kaine Humberson, Macoy Marze put the Bobcats up 14-0 on a nifty run through the heart of the Panther defense.  The Cats made another bid stand and took a 14-0 lead into intermission.

It was much of the same for the Bobcats in the second half as Ashworth took the half’s opening kickoff to the house to put his team up 21-0.  Orangefield’s Special Teams Coach, Rick Deutsch, prides his return unit on blocking for one another and it proved advantageous as the Bobcats executed their second kickoff return touchdown of the year.  After another stop the Orangefield Offense wasn’t done yet either, as they drove the length of the field to tack on one more score with Koltin Marshall leading the way.  Marshall did some tough running to score from 6 yards out and give the Bobcats a commanding 30-0 lead.  The O-line was also spectacular throughout the game, opening huge holes for the Cat’s backs to run through.  Linemen, Diego Reyes and Lane Evans did an excellent job of executing their blocks and getting into the second level of the defense.

The Bobcats shutout their opponents for the third consecutive week.  The dominating performance was due, in large, to the excellent push and disruption the defensive line caused throughout the game.  Coby Coulter and Dylan Whitman led the charge as their team held the Panthers to under 50 total yards in addition to creating multiple turnovers.  Other defensive standouts for the Bobcats were Harley Davidson and Evan Spears.  Davidson, the Right End, did an excellent job getting off his blocks and setting the edge to make multiple tackles for a loss. Evan Spears, linebacker, was all over the field making numerous big plays alongside what was a touchdown saving tackle in the 4th quarter.  This bunch is now 3-0 and has outscored opponents 72-0 on the season.

The 8th Grade Orangefield Bobcat Football Team got their first win ever last night against the rival Panthers of Mauriceville.  The game started off just as the Cats would have it as they marched ball down the field on an opening drive that consumed the entire 1st quarter and a good chunk of the second.  The Bobcats moved the ball at will behind some strong blocking from Kyler Metts, Kaleb Buxton, and Aaron Miller and Gunner Jones punched in a run to give the Cats the lead.  After the score, Orangefield lined up for what looked to be an extra point attempt, but threw the ball after a direct snap to the kicker.  The pass fell incomplete and the score was 6-0 as the Cats got out to an early lead.

Mauriceville took the next drive and moved the ball a little on the ground before Orangefield buckled down and forced a long fourth down that saw the Panthers convert on a fake punt.  Ryan Trahan, Avery Boyett, and the rest Bobcat Defense bowed their necks and held their opponents scoreless as the half expired.

The Panthers looked to be moving along to start the 3^rd quarter, but Jase Gipson jumped on very timely fumble.  The Cats got the ball and never looked back, grinding out a few first downs before Gunner Jones broke a long run after Mauriceville failed to wrap him up at the line of scrimmage.  RB, Matthew Engle capped off another clock-chewing drive with a 10 yard touchdown run and with a successful conversion Orangefield had a 14-0 lead going into the 4^th quarter.  The next period saw much of the same from each team as the Panthers moved the ball a little, but could not break the barrier set by the defensive line of Jase Gipson, Aiden Clarke, Hunter McHugh, and Daniel Durbin.  Matthew Engle took the Bobcats’ only offensive play of the 4th 85 yards to the house on the opening play of the next possession and the speedy Garrison Hughes walked in the end zone for a conversion that made the score 22-0.  Mauriceville threatened again late in the game, but big defensive end, Daniel Durbin pounced on a Panther running back deep behind the line of scrimmage to quell any thought the opponent might have had at ruining a shutout victory for Orangefield.

After the big win Coach Reed added, “We have told our kids all year that they were a different team and that wins would come if they continued to work hard.  Our guys played their hearts out and it finally showed up for them on the score board tonight!  We couldn’t be more proud of them!”  The Bobcats are on a bye this upcoming week, but will return to action on October 6^th as they travel to Liberty to take on the Panthers.  Come out and support your Bobcat Football Teams.  WE BELIEVE!
