ORANGEFIELD — It did not take long for Orangefield High School to fill two head coaching vacancies this week.

Former West Orange-Stark standout Rebekah Ragsdale is now the head coach of the Lady Bobcat softball program while Sunny Hardy was hired as the new boys basketball head coach.

Ragsdale was a standout pitcher and hitter for her father Randy Ragsdale at WO-S. During her stint in a Lady Mustang uniform Ragsdale earned All-District and Academic All-State honors and was selected as the District Most Valuable Player twice.

Ragsdale went on to play one year at Galveston Junior College and then went on to play at Mary Hardin-Baylor, a place where she would end up as the all-time school leader in both wins and strikeouts.

She has spent the last two seasons as a graduate assistant at West Texas A&M, where she picked up her Master’s in Sports Management.

Ragsdale will replace long-time Lady Bobcat head coach Amy McLaughlin, who left recently to be an assistant softball and volleyball coach at Lumberton High School.

Hardy has been the had boys basketball coach at New Summerfield High School the last three years in which he amassed a 63-27 record. The team made the playoffs each year, including a district championship in 2015 that also included a trip to the regional quarterfinals.

Hardy also spent time as an assistant at Kilgore and at New Summerfield. He was a member of the Dangerfield staff that won a state championship in 2008.

Hardy is a graduate of Kilgore High School and from the University of Texas at Tyler.

Hardy replaces long-time Bobcat head coach Rea Wrinkle, who is now the assistant principal at Orangefield Junior High.
