WO-S’ Dupre wins boys high jump, Thayer, Goldsmith also State-bound

HUNTSVILLE —Orange County athletes were jumping for joy Friday as they punched their tickets to the Class 4A Track & Field Championships with stellar performances at the Class 4A Region III Track & Field Championships at Sam Houston State University.

West Orange-Stark’s Jared Dupre brought home a regional title in the high jump as the Mustangs tore up the competition by setting a new personal mark, going 6 feet, 7 inches.

Bridge City’s Hunter Denton captured the long jump title, going 22 feet, 5 ¾ inches to bring home regional gold.

Fellow Bridge City athlete and Lady Cardinal Kaitlin Thayer will be heading to Austin as well in the shot put.

Thayer set a new school-record by heaving the shot put 39-3 to finish in second-place.

Little Cypress-Mauriceville’s Trey Guillory will also be heading to Austin as he placed second in the triple jump with a tremendous mark of 45-8.
Orangefield Lady Bobcat Brooklyn Goldsmith will also be heading to Austin as she captured second-place in the girls pole vault with a superb effort of 10-9.

The University Interscholastic League’s State Track & Field Championships will be held May 12-14 at the University of Texas in Austin.
