LITTLE CYPRESS — It was a great night in Lady Bear Country as the Little Cypress-Mauriceville Lady Bears honored the return of the 2006 Class 4A State Champion Lady Bears with a 9-4 District 24-4A victory over the Hamshire-Fannett Lady Longhorns at Lady Bear Field Friday night.

Most of the members of the 2006 state champs were on hand, and LC-M freshman pitcher Brianna Frenzel did her best impression of Lady Bear legend Cody Trahan.

Frenzel struck out 16 Lady Longhorns and allowed just two hits while walking two as she recorded all 21 outs.

Frenzel left the game in the top of the sixth inning but came back in after the Lady Longhorns rallied to within 5-4 after they took advantage of a couple LC-M miscues in the field along with a big hit.

The win pushes the Lady Bears to 5-4 in 24-4A play while the Lady Longhorns slipped to 1-7.

LC-M struck for a run in the bottom of the first inning.

Renna Toomey, who went 3-for-4 on the night, had a leadoff single and Maddie Murdock followed with a bunt single. Toomey eventually scored on a Jone’e Villanueva RBI groundout.

H-F got on the board in the top of the second.

Zoey Arceneaux drew a one-out walk, swiped second and scored on a Kayle Parsley RBI single to left.

The Lady Bears tallied three runs in the bottom of the third.

Toomey had a one-out single up the middle and darted in to score when Joanna Henry belted a RBI double off the wall in left centerfield.

With two outs, Villanueva reached on an error at short as Henry scored. Villanueva made it 4-1 when she scored off a Kayla Manuel double to center.

The Lady Bears upped it to 5-1 I the bottom of the fifth.

Villanueva reached on an error with two outs and ended up scoring on a Manuel infield single.

The Lady Longhorns made it interesting in the top of the sixth.

Jaycee Perry relieved Frenzel on the LC-M hill.

Amber Fountain opened it up with a double to left. Callie Saurage reached on an error and Arceneaux walked to load the bases.

Brooke Cordell reached on an error as Fountain came in to score and then Saurage came in on a wild pitch as Frenzel reentered the contest.

The Lady Longhorns got to within 5-4 when Arceneaux scored on a passed ball.

The Lady Bears, however, got plenty of insurance in the bottom of the sixth by tacking on four runs.

Ashley Short had a leadoff single to center and Makayla Dyer was hit by a pitch. Toomey promptly smoked a two-run double to left to make it 7-4.

Henry came through again with a RBI single to late Toomey. Henry eventually scored on a wild itch.

The Lady Bears will look to carry their momentum into a big road game Tuesday at Bridge City. The Lady Cardinals are a perfect 8-0 in 24-4A play and are ranked o. 3 in the state in Class 4A.
