SETCA to honor coaches at Luncheon

BEAUMONT — Plenty of coaches will be honored for their outstanding service not only career-wise but for what a lot of them accomplished during the 2015 school season Jan. 30.

The Southeast Texas Coaches Association will present the “Class of 2016 Luncheon” at the Holiday Inn & Suites Beaumont Plaza that goes along with the 18th Annual Golden Triangle Football Clinic.

Those going into this year’s Hall of Honor includes Terry King, former trainer at West Orange-Stark, Nederland and the Beaumont, ISD; Thomas Brooks, who coached at Ozen, Jasper and WO-S; Pat Park, who coached at Lamar University; and Roy Harper, who coached at Burkeville.

The SETCA will also honor the 2015 Southeast Texas “Coach of the Year Awards” to the head coaches of the 17 sports and to the “Trainer of the Year” along with the “Media Person of the Year” and “Official of the Year.”

Coach of the Year honors will go to boys track: Darrell Granger, PA Memorial; girls track: Brittany Granger, Hardin-Jefferson; boys golf: Ricky Keyes, PN-G; girls golf: Richard Miles, Barbers Hill; boys soccer: Roger Galo C.E. King; girls soccer: Gabriela Carter, Jasper; boys tennis: Tyler Thames, Barbers Hill; girls tennis: Diana Caston, Kirbyville; boys powerlifting: John Davis, Orangefield; girls powerlifting: Malcom Isom, West Brook; boys cross country: Dennis Leonard; girls cross country: Fay Bell-Guillory, Hamshire-Fannett; boys basketball: Kevin Foster, Big Sandy; girls basketball: Rickey Jacks, Lumberton; baseball: Shea Landry, WO-S; softball: Latonya Dorsey, Huffman; volleyball: Regina Snell, Hardin; football: Cornel Thompson, WO-S.

The Trainer of the Year is Hardin-Jefferson’s Kathryn Embersics. The Media Person of the Year is KFDMs Andrew Chernoff and the Official of the Year is Kelley Touchet.

The Luncheon will begin at noon and the doors will open at 11:30 a.m. and is open to the public. Tickets for the event is $10.

The Coaching Clinic will be Jan. 28-29 at the Holiday Inn Plaza. There will be college as well as high school coaches speaking on Jan. 28 followed by a coach’s social. At the end of the Jan. 29 session there will be a crawfish boil to conclude the clinic.
