A 33-year-old man from Orange has been sentenced following a 2022 fatal shooting.

163rd District Court Judge Rex Peveto sentenced Marquest Watson March 7, according to information from the court.

Watson was sentenced to 40 years in prison.

He was previously found guilt by a jury in the killing of Uriel Alejandro Garcia Salazar, 30, of Bridge City.

Officers with the Orange Police Department were called at approximately 8:37 p.m. Feb. 2, 2022, to the 16^th Street alley in reference to shots fired.

Police met with witnesses and obtained suspect information, according to Sgt. Isaac T. Henry III.

A search ensured, and a man matching the suspect description was reportedly seen quickly entering a residence at 2924 17^th St.

Shortly after, two other people exited the home and spoke with officers.

The witnesses gave police Watson’s name and said they were worried about him. They also said they heard gunshots and saw Watson enter the home.

Information was provided about their neighbor in a red truck next door at 2918 17^th Street.

Officers went next door and located Uriel Alejandro Garcia-Salazar, who was deceased inside the red truck with several apparent gunshot wounds to his body.

Watson was detained and interviewed. He allegedly admitted to shooting Uriel Alejandro Garcia-Salazar and was placed under arrest.

Watson was brought to jail and bond set at $1 million.
