To The Leader
The Better Business Bureau Serving Southeast Texas announced the names of the students who earned the Student of Integrity Scholarships, awarded by the BBB Foundation. The honorees were selected by a team of independent judges from candidates representing an eight and a half county region.
The designees will receive a one-time, $2500 scholarship payable to the college or university they will be attending in Fall 2020.
The graduating high school seniors named Student of Integrity are: Elizabeth Johns, Little Cypress Mauriceville High School and Whitney Gipson, Newton High School.
Elizabeth will be attending the University of Mississippi in the Fall to pursue a degree in Communication Sciences and Disorders with a minor in Piano. She plans on becoming a speech pathologist, focusing on elderly individuals with cognitive and speech challenges.
Whitney will be attending the University of Louisiana in Lafayette and majoring in Nursing. She plans on gaining work experience before attending medical school for a three-year program to become a Registered Certified Nurse Anesthetist.
Each candidate completed an application requesting leadership roles, community service activities and an essay detailing an ethical challenge and resolution. Transcripts and letters of references were also included.
This is the second year for BBB Southeast Texas’ Student of Integrity program. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the in-person ceremony was cancelled, and the number of scholarships reduced.
“Recent events underscore the need for our future leaders to be capable of adapting and holding true to character throughout the most trying times,” said Liz Fredrichs, CEO/President BBB Serving Southeast Texas. “We are honored to be able to help these local students who are committed to contributing to their careers and communities with excellence and integrity.”
BBB’s Student of Integrity scholarship is funded by the BBB Foundation, a 501 c (3) nonprofit of BBB Serving Southeast Texas that provides consumer and business programs.
