The Veterans of Foreign Wars & Auxiliary Post #2775 recently released its Voice of Democracy and Patriot Pen Awards for students in the Orange County area.

Voice of Democracy (9th – 12th grade) awards went to: First-place: Lydia Covey (home schooled) $300. She also won district $300 and took third at State and received $7,000 there.

Second- place was Amber Martinez (Orangefield)  $200; Third-place Whitney Hoyland (Orangefield) $100; and fourth-place Elizabeth Johns  (LCM) $75

Patriot’s Pen (6th – 8th grade) awards:  All winners were from St Mary’s School.

First-Place: Elizabeth Quintero $150; Second-place: Cort Hickman $100, Third-place: Kyden Lyons $50, and Fourth-place: Kendal Phillips  $50

Each winner received a check, citation and sign for their yard. We were disappointed that an Awards program couldn’t be held this year but, the smiles and gratitude of the students were just as rewarding.  Post #2775 Veterans of Foreign Wars & Auxiliary want to thank the schools, teachers, students and parents for letting us bring the Voice of Democracy & Patriot’s Pen contest to them.  This year’s theme, “What Makes America Great”, was the same for both contests.

Patricia Kemp was the Chairman and Richard and Marie Pillsbury assisted and are eager for the 2020-2021 year to start.
