The Orange County Historical Society will have its last program of the year on Nov. 5 at 6:30 p.m. in the Orange Train Depot. The speaker will be Dr. Thomas Johnson, the president of Lamar State College-Orange since August 2018. Dr. Johnson was raised in Southeast Texas. He has earned five college degrees including two associate degrees, a bachelor of science, a master of science and a doctorate. Dr. Johnson served in law enforcement both as an officer and in management for 20 years before becoming involved in higher education. He held positions at Tyler College, Houston State University and Houston Community College before coming to Lamar State College-Orange. In Feb. 2015 Dr. Johnson was inducted into the Texas Southern University College of Education Hall of Fame. The public is invited and admission is free. Light refreshments will be served.
