LTTE: Babin others should listen to people on Climate Change

Dear Editor:

A survey by Yale University found that 70% of Americans believe climate change will harm future generations. On Friday, March 15th, young people in more than 100 countries around the world walked out of classrooms to demand a reduction in greenhouse gas emissions like carbon pollution. In Southeast Texas, climate change means more frequent and stronger hurricanes, vector-borne diseases like West Nile, and extreme temperatures. One solution is The Energy Innovation and Carbon Dividend Act, which would place a steadily rising fee on carbon pollution and return all revenue to households. This bill is a market-based approach with bipartisan support, will drive down carbon pollution while putting money in people’s pockets, is good for business and will create jobs. I hope to see my representative, Brian Babin, as well as other Texas lawmakers,  sponsor and support legislation like this. The youth of America’s lives depend on it.

Sincerely,
Katy Swiere
