Dr. Tae Hoon Kim

Dr. Tae Hoon Kim passed away on Saturday, November 10, 2018. He was 80 years old.

Tae Hoon was born in Seoul, South Korea on September 24, 1938. The second of ten siblings, Tae Hoon enrolled at Seoul National University and upon graduating, joined the South Korean air force as a flight engineer. In 1968, Tae Hoon immigrated to the United States where he later earned a PhD in Chemical Engineering at the University of Texas at Austin.

Tae Hoon worked at the DuPont plant in Orange for 30 years. After retiring, he taught at Lamar University as an Adjunct Professor of Industrial Engineering and was very active in the Korean community. With the help of local churches, Tae Hoon built a worship center for Koreans called the Korean Baptist Church of Beaumont. He also was the head of the Beaumont Korean School.

Tae Hoon was an avid golfer and loved both Korean trot music and Italian opera. He is survived by his loving wife, Chunghee, of 47 years, his son David and his wife (Yoonmi) and their two children (Alex and Bryan), and his younger son Joshua.  Tae Hoon is also survived by his seven siblings.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00am, Wednesday, November 14, 2018, at Claybar Funeral Home in Orange (504 N. 5th Street, Orange, Texas 77631).

Visitation will be prior to the service beginning at 10:00 a.m. and will continue after the service.
