This Column’s Milestone  Three years have passed since the author first starting submitting this column to the Orange Leader and other area newspapers.  Thank you, all you wonderful readers, for reading this column.

Save the Date! (1)The Vernon Historical and Genealogical Society will hold its monthly meeting on October 6, 2018, at 12:30 PM in the Meeting Room of the Vernon Parish Library.  The Library is located at 1401 Nolan Trace, Leesville, LA.  This month’s special speaker will be  Michelle Riggs from LSU-A.  She will be speaking about the collection of pictures (negatives) that were made by Wallace “Roger” Dunn for, and of, many Vernon Parish residents.  The collection was donated to LSUA upon Mr. Dunn’s death.  Mr. Dunn was the brother of our own, Mr. Al Dunn.  2.  There will be a short business meeting.  One of the important tasks of the meeting will be the President appointing a Nomination Committee for 2019 Officer selection.  3.  If you are going to bring a dish or drinks to the meeting, please let me know for planning purposes only.  Thank you,  Cheryl Tilley Perkins Corresponding Secretary, VHGS  (2) Patti Smith, a member of the Dallas Genealogical Society will discuss DNA’s connections to genealogy with her program “Between the Lines” for the Angelina County Genealogical Society at 4:00 p.m. on Monday, October 15, 2018,  in the Community Meeting Room of Kurth Memorial Library on 706 South Raguet Street in Lufkin, Texas (75904).  Coffee and cookies will begin at 3:00 p.m. At 6:00 p.m. eighteen-year-old Angelina College student William Seay will discuss his Seay family’s genealogy with all its interestingness including the Huguenot connection in the Fellowship Hall of Keltys United Methodist Church on 1867 Old Mill Road in Lufkin, Texas (75904).  For more information, contact Rev. Eye on Books The Newton County Historical Commission is offering their newest book Once an Eagle by Bobby Bean for sale for $30 at the Newton County Museum History Center and Genealogical Library on 213 East Court Street in downtown Newton, Texas (75966).
