Save the Date! (1) The Angelina County Genealogical Society is honored to sponsor the Happy 136th Birthday Lufkin! Celebration on Wednesday, September 12, 2018 from 8 a.m. to noon in the City Council Chambers in the Lufkin City Hall on 300 West Shepherd Ave. in downtown Lufkin, Texas (75904).  At 8 a.m. Mount Enterprise resident John Langston will discuss “Brick Collecting.”  At 9 a.m. Pineland native Wayne Fults will discuss “1900-1920 Era Coca-Cola Bottles.”  At 10 a.m. Dr. Neal Naranjo will discuss “A. B. Jennings and the Coming of the H.E.W.T. (3) Stanley Fletcher will discuss “Ferry Tells” at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, September 19, 2018 for the Timpson Area Genealogical Society and Heritage Society meeting at the Timpson Public Library on 520 Austin Street in downtown Timpson (75966)

(5) The 1958 Lufkin High School Class Reunion will take place on Saturday, October 13, 2018 beginning with a fish fry from noon until the fish is ready at 2 p.m. at Ardie Dixon’s house on Old Union Road in Lufkin, Texas.  At 5 p.m. the class will gather to watch a movie at the Pines Theater.  Class members are asked to vote for their favorite movie from that period.  On Sunday, October 14, 2018 the class will gather at Charlie’s on the loop in Lufkin (next to Pilot) at 9:30 a.m. for breakfast.  For more information please contact Syll Holt at (936) 671-3599, or e-mail her at syllholt@yahoo.com

(6) The 1968 Lufkin High School Class Reunion will reunite October 19, 2018 for a Meet & Greet 5-7:30 p.m. at Ralph & Kacoo’s on 59 South in Lufkin, Texas.  The next day,Saturday, October 20, 2018 from 11:00 to 1:00 p.m. at  Ray’s Drive-In on North Timberland in Lufkin. Later that evening on Saturday, October 20, 2018 from 7:00 pm. to 11:00 p.m. at The Silo on 206 East Groesbeck near First Baptist Church in downtown Lufkin. There will be Dinner & Dancing with a DJ playing their  Faves. Please send $45.00 per person by October 1, 2018. On Sunday, October 21, 2018 Dutch Treat from 8:00 to 10:00 a.m. at Golden Corral, 2410 South First.  Dutch Treat on everything except the Silo which is $45.00 per person.  No outside alcohol.  For more information, please contact Lynn Tullos Repp.

Eye on Books The Newton County Historical Commission is offering their newest book Once an Eagle by Bobby Bean for sale for $30 at the Newton County Museum History Center and Genealogical Library on 213 East Court Street in downtown Newton, Texas (75966).
