To The Leader

The Little Cypress-Mauriceville High School Quiz Bowl team competed in the National Championship from Friday, May 25, to Sunday, May 27, in Atlanta, Georgia. There were 355 teams competing in the event. LCMHS went 4-6, to finish at 274. 2018 was the fourth consecutive year that the Southeast Texas title was won by the LCMHS students.

According to team sponsor, Charlette Roddy, “The team had a very respectable performance and the kids left Atlanta knowing that it was an honor to qualify for the national tournament. They had the opportunity to meet and mingle with some of the smartest kids from all over the country.”

Some of the highlights of the event include Jeopardy’s Alex Trebec, who spoke via satellite during the opening session and in one match, the moderator was last year’s winner of Teachers Jeopardy.  “It was a great experience for the kids”, said Roddy.

Ms. Roddy and the team also want to thank those who participated in the Teacher/Student Exhibition matches, as well as those who contributed toward the cost of the trip. She said, “The team had a very successful year and it would not have been possible without the excellent instruction they receive from their teachers.”

Texas teams won First and Third in the tournament. Plano West was First with 16-2 and LASA from Austin was Third with 15-4. Official results can be found at https://www.naqt.com/stats/tournament/standings.jsp?tournament_id=8400.
