Lady Panthers sink Lady Cardinals in Area Round

CROSBY — The Bridge City Lady Cardinals fell 4-0 in Game Two to Liberty in the Class 4A Region III Area Round of the playoffs Friday night at Port Neches-Groves High School as the Lady Panthers move on to the regional quarterfinals to end another superb Bridge City season.

The Lady Cardinals (26-9), District 22-4A champions, fell to Liberty (23-10) 5-2 in Game One Thursday night at Crosby High School.

Liberty will move on to face Lufkin Hudson in the regional quarters.

Kassidy Wilbur tossed all seven innings for the Lady Cardinals in both outings. In Game One she allowed seven hits and walked four. In Game Two she struck out six and allowed eight hits.

In Game One Caitlin Denison was 1-for-2 at the plate and scored a run while Kyndall Harrison also scored a run for the Lady Cardinals.

The Lady Panthers jumped out to an early 3-0 lead in Game One. The Lady Cardinals got to within 3-2 in the fourth but the Lady Panthers escaped with the win by adding a pair of insurance runs.

In Game Two, the Lady Panthers struck for three runs in the top of the third and tallied their other run in the seventh frame.

Kaci West tossed both complete games to nab the wins on the hill for Liberty. Baylee Chandler had three hits for Liberty in Game Two, including a two-run triple in the third inning.
