Hundreds of art museums celebrate the American West (including more than a few east of the Mississippi). But True West magazine says that the Stark Museum of Art of Orange, TX is among the best.

The Stark Museum was named the #4 Western art museum in the country. The recognition is part of the Annual Guide to the Best Museums of the West in True West’s September 2017 issue, on newsstands now.

“The Stark is one of the most underappreciated museums around,” says True West Executive Editor Bob Boze Bell. “But it has an amazing collection that helps keep the Old West alive. It truly is one of the top Western art museums.”

Seven-time Spur Award-winning writer Johnny D. Boggs selected the winners for this annual award based on extensive travels, research and firsthand experiences in visiting dozens of Western art museums each year.

Boggs cited the Stark for outstanding exhibits such as “Branding the American West: Paintings and Films 1900-1950”, which closes September 9.

The museum feature also names the Top 10 Western Museums—led by the Buffalo Bill Center of the West in Cody, WY—as well as other institutions of note and regional standouts.

True West magazine is in its 65th year of leading the way in presenting the true stories of Old West adventure, history, culture and preservation. For more information, visit TWMag.com or call 888-687-1881.
