Special to The Leader

Mark your calendars!  Vidor ISD Community Education will host a big health fair on Saturday, January 28, and there will be something for everyone.  The fair will be held at Vidor Middle School from 9:00 until 1:00 in the school cafetorium.  The Lions Club will be on hand screening vision for people of all ages, including children. So if that’s something you need to do, the screenings are free and there’s a possibility of getting glasses as well.

“Vidor Health and Rehabilitation will offer blood sugar screenings, and we have Christus St. Elizabeth offering cholesterol screens set up as well.  They will also check body mass index and do some heart health risk screenings,” says VISD Coordinator of Community Relations Sally Andrews. “We know there are folks who needed assistance and don’t have insurance or can’t afford these tests, so we’re trying to get as many lined up as possible. We always run into time constraints, though. The tests can’t be done quickly, and that’s usually an issue, so we urge folks to be patient in getting the screenings.”

Andrews goes on to say that Gulf Coast Chiropractic will be on hand offering free spine screenings, and you can also get your blood pressure checked at the fair.

Booths lined up so far to offer free information and door prizes are Community Health Choice, Girl Scouts, Lamar University Nursing students, Garth House, Anytime Fitness, and the Lamar University Dietetic Internship program. Also offering info will be the Rape and Suicide Crisis of Southeast Texas program, SETaNa Narcotics Anonymous, Orange County LEPC with safety tips, UTMB Health, PAM Rehabilitation Hospital of Beaumont, and the American Red Cross chapters from both Orange and Beaumont. Rounding out the group so far are Triangle Area Network who will do free testing for AIDS and Hepatitis C, Mothers Against Drunk Drivers, United Healthcare, Legacy Community Health, Amerigroup, and Maximus.  MCNA Dental will also be there will all kinds of great advice and helps, and the Vidor ISD Police Department will be on hand with information about what they do in the schools.
