The Texas Dance Educator’s Association Convention was held in The Woodlands on January 4-7. Each director attending the convention took her drill team captain for the Texas All-State dancer workshops and dance performance. These young ladies also have the chance to win a scholarship. The All-State dancers write an essay about themselves and their dancing and academic accomplishments. After a committee reads these essays, they choose five finalists. There were 222 young ladies at the convention and 58 of them completed their scholarship essay and academic scores. Vidor High School Captain, Stephanie Licon, left, was chosen one of the five finalists. Upon arriving at the convention and All State dance, Stephanie had an interview with a committee. From this interview they placed the young ladies; 5th, 4th, 3rd, 2nd and 1st place scholarship winners. Each one received a scholarship depending on her placement. Stephanie was awarded the second place scholarship of $1750. Her director, Ginger Faul, right, is so proud of Stephanie for this accomplishment and the awesome captain she has been this year. The All-State dancers also learned a dance which they performed for the directors on Friday night.
