Gift of Life Letter to the Editor: In Remembrance of Our Friend, Debbie Reynolds

In 2009, the incomparable and dynamic Debbie illuminated the stage of the Julie Rogers Theatre with incredible musical magic, enchanting the audience during her remarkable performance at the Gift of Life’s Putting on the Pink Gala honoring breast cancer survivors.

The 1,500 plus guests were spellbound by the energy and irresistible talent of the “unsinkable Molly Brown,” as she sang, danced, shared memorable stories and out-takes from her historical theatrical and film career, relating turbulent life episodes to the challenges confronting cancer survivors.

In the spirit of the occasion, Debbie surprisingly removed her bedazzled shoes for an impromptu auction benefiting the cause, and with continued determination to support our program’s efforts, she transitioned from a 90-minute show to a “meet and greet” where she patiently posed for hundreds of photographs.

Debbie’s departure creates heartache, but her achievements and ability to touch lives from Beverly Hills to Beaumont have forever lifted our souls and taught us the importance of always “singin’ in the rain.”
