ORANGEFIELD — One week away from the start of the District 12-4A Division II campaign, the Orangefield Bobcats will take to the road Friday to wrap up non-district play against the Diboll Lumberjacks.

The Bobcats (2-3) pushed aside a three-game losing streak last week by demolishing Beaumont Kelly 52-0.

Meanwhile, the Lumberjacks (1-4) picked up their first win of the season, downing Cleveland 21-13.

After pushing Little Cypress-Mauriceville to the limit before falling 43-42 in overtime a couple weeks back, the Bobcats were clicking on all cylinders against Kelly.

Orangefield piled up 365 yards on 38 carries on the ground to dominate the game and the clock.

The Bobcat defense rose up as well, limiting the Bulldogs to just 35 yards of total offense, including minus 32 on the ground.

The Bobcats will check in at Diboll averaging 267.6 yards a game, 259.2 via the ground game.

Defensively the Bobcats are allowing just 241.6 yards a game, 162 on the ground.

Orangefield healed up a few wounds against Kelly as quarterback Caleb Kress and Chistopher McGee got time off to nurse injuries.

McGee is the leading rusher for the Bobcat. He has 263 yards and two touchdowns on 38 carries. Kress has 179 yards and five TDs on 40 carries.

Christian Louvier has came up big the last two weeks and now has 260 yards and five TDs on 37 carries. Wesley Frillou bounced back last week with a big game against Kelly after missing the LC-M game due to injury. Frillou now has 222 yards and two TDs on 28 carries.

 

Former Orangefield head coach Blake Morrison guides the Lumberjacks. Diboll notched its first winning record since 2008 last season when Morrison led them to a 7-4 mark. Former Bridge City head coach Cris Stump is a assistant for the Lumberjacks.

Diboll bounced back well last week against Cleveland after suffering losses to Madisonville (11-8), Crockett (27-14), Newton (35-7) and Center (34-21).

Four starters returned to the Diboll offense.  Senior running back Desmond Shelby (2nd team all-district in 2015) will shoulder much of the load with junior Lucio Monroy also seeing some carries.  Jovanni Cocha, junior guard Daniel Zarzoza and Jeffery Dover will protect things up front.

The Bobcats will open up 12-4A play next week when they visit undefeated Liberty (5-0).
