Special to The Leader

McNeese State University will host the second annual Cowboy Kickoff Dinner and Showcase fundraiser for the McNeese Band travel fund Thursday, Aug. 18, in Burton Coliseum.

Doors open at 6:30 p.m. with a dinner that includes barbecue pulled pork sandwiches, potato salad, chips, brownies and beverages.

The showcase begins at 7 p.m. with several presentations. Performances by the Pride of McNeese Marching Band, Cowgirl Kickers and cheerleaders will follow guest performances by the Sulphur High School Band of Pride and Twisters Dance Team.

Tickets are $30 for adults and $10 for children ages 12 and under and are available for purchase Aug. 1-11 at the McNeese Athletics Ticket Office, the McNeese Band Hall Office and the Sulphur High Band Office.

“Expenses for a two-day/one-night trip for the marching band runs in excess of $20,000, not including possible ticket charges at large stadium venues,” said Dr. Jay Jacobs, McNeese director of bands. “The proceeds from this event will help us to maintain our role as highly visible, exceptionally positive ambassadors of McNeese.”

Beyond the importance of funding band travel to represent the university, Jacobs said that he is also working hard to make this a very fun and entertaining event for the entire family.

“We are excited to welcome Sulphur High School as our first Showcase partner! In future years, we hope to expand the showcase to include more high schools from Calcasieu Parish, coming together as one, big community to build the excitement for everyone’s football season,” he said.

For ticket information, call the athletics ticket office at 562-4MSU or the band hall at 475-5004.
