Reverend Henry L. Stevens

Reverend Henry L. Stevens, age 98 of Orange, Texas, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Thursday, June 9, 2016. Services will be held at 11:00 AM on Monday, June 13, 2016 at Eastgate United Pentecostal Church with Pastor Gary Wheeler officiating. Interment will follow at King Cemetery in Deweyville, Texas. Visitation will be from 2:00 to 5:00 PM on Sunday, June 12, 2016 at North Orange Pentecostal Church.

Reverend Stevens graduated from Marshall College, and attended seminary in Tulsa, Oklahoma.  One of his favorite stories to share about his childhood was traveling, by covered wagon, on trips between Texas and Oklahoma.  He was told his first words were “locust up a tree.”

Rev. Stevens was born in Ralls, Texas August 5, 1917. He founded and pastored North Orange Pentecostal Church from 1942-1976.  He was very proud that approximately 47 Pastors came out of his church.

Reverend Stevens retired from the United States Post Office as a rural carrier.  On his mail route, is where he put to memory many books of the Bible that he could quote, and loved to share the word with everyone.  Reverend Henry L. Stevens literally wrote the word of God on his heart.

He was not only a Fisher of Men but also an avid fisherman.  One of his favorite quotes about fishing was “its like one jerk waiting on another” and “It’s not the gale but the set of the sail.”

He is preceded in death by his first wife of 50 years, Mary Louise Mulford Stevens, and his second wife Geneva L. Chandler Stevens and a son Daniel Stevens.

He is survived by his five children; Naomi Stevens of Pearland, Texas, Sam Stevens and his wife Linda of Sulphur, LA, Benny Stevens and his wife Debbie of Granbury, TX, Mike Stevens and his wife Claire of Houston, TX and David Stevens and his wife Karen of Orange, TX. Fourteen grandchildren, twelve great grandchildren and one great, great grandchild.
