BEAUMONT, Texas — The Symphony of Southeast Texas (SOST) presents its annual Youth Education Concerts on Tuesday, Feb. 2 and Wednesday, Feb. 3, at 9 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. each day, at the Julie Rogers Theatre. Over 4,000 local students are expected to attend the free concerts and gain exposure to a live performance of a symphony orchestra.
This year’s concerts will feature the Magic Circle Mime Company, regarded as one of today’s premier family attractions. Their highly acclaimed performances, which unite the concert orchestra with visual theater, are consistently praised for imaginative and innovative content. They will perform “The Mozart Experience” and give the students the opportunity to experience Mozart’s life as a very human story, as well as a great musical adventure. In the program, a mischievous street musician finds herself thrust into the role of Mozart. Presented by the conductor with opportunities and dilemmas similar to those faced by the great composer himself, the street musician slowly evolves into a modern-day Mozart.
Also joining the orchestra for these educational concerts are Lamar University students Catelyn Gentry, performing on clarinet, and baritone Eric Gonzales, performing a Mozart aria.
SOST Music Director Chelsea Tipton, II will also educate the students throughout the program on the music and the orchestra overall. These concerts often represent many students’ first time attending a live musical performance. Students attending the concerts range from kindergarten through 12th grade and are from school districts all across Southeast Texas.
