Beards for Breast Cancer: Everyday Heroes Saving and Protecting Lives

Published 8:10 pm Friday, January 8, 2016

From October through January, local law enforcement took a lifesaving stand for neighbors in need by boasting beards for an innovative Beards for Breast Cancer Campaign. By making generous donations and growing facial hair, these “boys in blue” demonstrated their support of the Gift of Life Women’s Health Program, which provides lifesaving cancer screenings for local women who lack insurance or cannot afford their high deductibles.

The Gift of Life will acknowledge the valiant efforts of these everyday heroes at a Pink Shave-Off on Friday, January 8 at 9:00 AM at the Loft Hair Salon (489 Pearl Street • Beaumont). A portion of the participating officers will be present to unveil their new appearance after a therapeutic hot shave provided by Loft stylists.

“These men are heroes,” said Gift of Life Founder and Chair Regina Rogers. “Every day they risk their lives in service to our community. Though they already protect our lives, they made an additional commitment to save lives by donating to this important cause. We are humbled by this display of love and generosity.”

Annually, the Gift of Life provides more than 2,200 free clinical breast exams and mammograms, in addition to diagnostic testing and access to treatment for medically underserved Southeast Texas women. Since the program’s inception, the Gift of Life has extended the lives of nearly 200 women who were diagnosed with breast cancer through these efforts.
