Team Carsyn

Golf Tournament

The 13th Annual Bridge City Chamber of Commerce Golf Tournament will be held starting at 8 a.m., Saturday, Sept. 12, at Babe Zaharias Golf Course, 3500 Jimmy Johnson Blvd in Port Arthur. The cost of the 4 person scramble is $60 per person, which includes green fee, cart, beverages, food and door prizes. Hole sponsorships are $100 and mulligans are $5 each. Second Saturday Specialty Tour

Visitors to the W.H. Stark House will be able to experience full tours with a twist at 10 a.m., 11 a.m., and noon, Thursday, Sept. 12. Themes will change often. LC-M Honey Bear Clinic

The LC-M Honey Bears will hold a clinic from 8:30 a.m. – noon, Saturday, Sept. 19. Cost is $40. A performance for parents will be at 11:30 a.m. Girls will perform at the LC-M Bears football game on Friday, Sept. 25. Indoor Garage Sale

Members of the VFW Auxiliary Post 2775 are hosting an Indoor Garage Sale to raise funds for our programs. Tables are being rented for $10 each. No tables will be allowed to be brought in. The event will take place from 7 a.m. – 1 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 3 at the VFW Hall on Highway 87 North. The hall will be open Friday from 5-8pm for vendor set up. Saturday, Vendors only will be let in at 6:30am to set up their tables with doors opening for customers at 7 a.m. The kitchen will be open from 9 a.m. – 1 p.m., selling hot dogs, chili dogs, frito pie, nachos and desserts. Retired teachers

Retired Teachers of Orange County will meet at 10:30 a.m., Monday, Sept. 14 at Wesley United Methodist Church, 401 37th St. in Orange. Deputy Fire Chief Leeanne Brown of the Orange Fire Department will be the guest speaker. Light snacks will be served after the meeting.

 

Master Gardeners

The September meeting of the Orange County Master Gardeners Association has been changed to Monday, Sept. 14, instead of the usual second Thursday of the month only for this month. Social time and a pot luck supper will start at 6 p.m. with the meeting from 6:30 – 8 p.m. This month will be a business meeting and we will show members how to log into the online system for reporting their volunteer hours. We will be discussing the finalization of the upcoming Master Gardener training also. The public is invited. Granger Chevrolet 5K Run/Walk

The 2nd Annual Granger Chevrolet 5K Run/Walk will be held at 8 a.m., Saturday, Oct. 10 at Granger Chevrolet in West Orange. The event is designed to promote health and fitness in Orange County. All proceeds benefit the United Way of Orange County. The event will be professionally timed by The Driven Race Solutions and places will be recognized by age group and awards given. OISD Community Meeting

The Orangefield Independent School District’s Board of Trustees will hold a Community Meeting at 6:30 p.m., Tuesday, Sept. 15 in the cafeteria of Orangefield Elementary, 10288 FM 105 in Orangefield, to discuss information related to the Oct. 3 Tax Ratification Election. SETRPC meeting

The monthly meeting of the South East Texas Regional Planning Commission (SETRPC) Executive Committee will be held at noon, Wednesday, Sept. 16, in SETRPC’s Mayor Homer E. Nagel Room, located at 2210 Eastex Freeway, Beaumont, Texas.

 

Veteran Recognition programs

The Texas Red Flashers will hold its next regular meeting on Thursday, Sept. 17. Ladies will meet at 11 a.m., at Walmart in West Orange and carpool to Delta Downs in Vinton, La. Separate vehicles will be available for those who want to eat and return, and for those who want to eat and then stay and play. The birthday lady is Madam Rebecca, Becky Nation. Celebration of Bottle Trees

Shangri La Botanical Gardens and Nature Center, 2111 W. Park Ave. in Orange, invites the public on Friday, Sept. 18 and Saturday, Sept. 19, to meet Stephanie Dwyer, the artist who created the 17-feet-tall bottle trees now located in the Children’s Garden at Shangri La, and to learn about the folk art history which connects the art, story and materials to artist. Shred It and Forget It

Better Business Bureau Serving Southeast Texas will host “Shred It & Forget It” on Saturday, Sept. 19, in Beaumont as part of an effort to reduce identity theft.  Since July 2006, 18 very successful events have been held in Southeast Texas helping over 5,000 customers. Shred-It will provide mobile shredding trucks for the one-day event.  The BBB invites consumers to bring documents to be shredded for FREE, such as credit card statements, old checks, I.R.S. tax returns, and anything that lists personal information.  Bring up to five (5) boxes per vehicle. (Box size is limited to a standard banker’s box, approximately 10 x 12 x 15 inches.)

Food Handlers Class

The Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Office of Orange County, 11475 FM 1442 in Orange, will offer its last Food Handlers class of 2015 from 5 p.m. – 8 p.m., Monday, Sept. 21. Cost is $20. The class is a basic overview of food safety practices that are necessary to ensure you serve safe food at your establishment such as but not limited to: good personal hygiene, cross contamination and time and temperature abuse. Fundraiser

Friends of the Orange Depot are selling bricks for the depot. The bricks are available in two sizes, 4 x 8 for $50 and 8 x 8 for $100. Each brick can have a maximum of 16 characters per line with a limit of two lines for the smaller bricks and five lines for the larger bricks. Shangri La Lecture
