The start of school is barely more than a week away, but there is still time to gather school supplies for those in need.

Back to School Orange County is once again offering local students and families free school supplies just in time for the start of the 2015-2016 school year. The event happens from 9 a.m. – noon, Saturday, Aug. 15 inside the Student Center of Lamar State College-Orange in downtown Orange. Parents must bring proof of the child’s or children’s enrollment in an Orange County school district, such as student ID, report card or a letter from the school district.

Back to School Orange County has approximately 1,600 pre-made school supply kits ready to be presented on Saturday. The event is perfect to bring the children to as well because along with free school supplies, there will be free books and backpacks, along with haircuts and immunizations. Children may also take photos with a variety of super heroes in attendance, such as Batman, Captain America, Iron Man, Spiderman and more guest attendees.

The event is made possible through the combined effort of several community partners, including Orange Christian Services and the Salvation Army of Orange County. Local school districts, several area churches and the Department of Family and Protective Services are also helping make this year’s event as successful as the one last year.

In 2014, according to the official website, Back to School Orange County was able to provide 1,256 bags of supplies, along with 72 free hair cuts, 70 vision screenings and 50 immunizations, along with free books, backpacks and clothing items such as socks and underwear.
