Orange County Sheriff’s Office received a 911 call in reference to a subject that had been shot in the stomach at approximately 10:45 p.m. Wednesday in Mauriceville.

Sheriff’s deputies and Acadian Ambulance arrived on the scene to find Gaven J. Wilcox, 24, with a gunshot wound to the abdominal area.

After questioning several witnesses, it appears Wilcox may have been shot accidentally while trying to diffuse a disturbance between several subjects. All subjects are cooperating with the ongoing investigation.

Wilcox was flown to Christus St. Elizabeth hospital in Beaumont, underwent surgery, and is currently in stable condition.
