SOST announces 63rd season
The Symphony of Southeast Texas celebrates its 63rd season with a journey around the world, as well as a stop in Orange County.
The Symphony of Southeast Texas begins its 63rd season by bringing summer to a close on Saturday, Sept. 19 in the Classics Concert Series, “Latin Treasures,” featuring 10-time Grammy Award winning trumpet virtuoso Arturo Sandoval.
In its first performance of the fall, the Symphony of Southeast Texas travels outside of Beaumont to Orange County for a concert at Shangri La Botanical Gardens and Nature Center in Orange. The event will be held at 5:30 p.m., Sunday, Oct. 18 and will coincide with the annual Scarecrow Festival with the concert taking place on the Great Lawn.
This concert is not part of the SOST season package. Tickets are $15 each and are general admission. Performances include selections from “West Side Story,” “The Wizard of Oz,” “Pirates of the Caribbean,” “Moon River” and more.
“I am so excited for this amazing musical trip around the world,” said SOST Music Director Chelsea Tipton in a press release. “We have many wonderful places to visit and beautiful melodies to share at each stop. I can hardly wait for this journey to begin!”
On Saturday, Nov. 14, the Symphony of Southeast Texas will feature the “Best of Beethoven,” while its fourth annual Christmas event, “Home for the Holidays,” will be Sunday, Dec. 6, as the orchestra performs a variety of holiday classics. This show is not part of the season package either, and tickets are $25 each for adults and $15 for seniors and students.
In 2016, the SOST will feature “Only in America” on Saturday, Jan. 23, while the annual Pops Concert will be held on Saturday, Feb. 20 as the SOST revisits the era of big band music “When Swing was King.”
The season concludes on Saturday, April 16, 2016 with “Russian Nights” featuring guest pianist Sean Chen, who won the 14th Annual Van Cliburn Piano Competition in 2013.
All performances are at the Julie Rogers Theatre, except for the Shangri La performance in October. Season tickets are $79 – $157 per person, while single ticket prices are $18 – $45. Visit www.sost.org or call 409-892-2257 for more information.
