LaVonne Lenora Singleton

LaVonne Lenora Singleton, 92, of Port Arthur, passed away, Wednesday, July 11, 2018 at her daughters home in Orange. LaVonne was born October 30, 1925 in Harrah, Oklahoma to the late Charles and Helen Kaplon Drew. She was retired as a Surgical Nurse at St. Mary Hospital in Port Arthur with 30 years of service.

After her husband Pete returned to Searcy, Arkansas the two met and dated for 6 weeks before a 6 month engagement lead to their wedding on June 2, 1945. During their 53 years of marriage Pete and LaVonne were blessed with four children, Jim Singleton and his wife Linda, Joe Singleton and his wife Donna, and Dr. Edward Singleton and his wife Kim, and Jackie Crow and her husband Willie; LaVonne is also survived by her sisters, Mary Jo Lusk, and Carolyn Frances Drew, her brother, Sonnie Drew and his wife Dean. Also 11 grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren, and 3 great-great grandchildren. LaVonne is preceded in death by her parents, her husband Pete, and her sister, Otelia Ann Murphy.

There will be a family Rosary on Friday, July 13, 2018 at 4:00 p.m. at Melancon’s Funeral Home in Nederland with visitation to follow from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Funeral services will be at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, July 14, 2018 with Rev. J.C. Coon officiating at the funeral home with interment to follow at Oak Bluff Memorial Park in Port Neches.
