Entergy delivers box fans to Orange County

Summer is really starting to heat up, but many residents of Orange County are struggling to stay cool.

Entergy Texas delivered 120 box fans to the Salvation Army location in Orange County on Thursday morning as the utility agency continued its “Beat the Heat” program for the 15th consecutive year.

The purpose of the “Beat the Heat” program is to assist low-income residents in the Entergy service territory to stay cool this summer, which is already heating up with some of the hottest temperatures this season forecast for this coming week.

“We have a lot of people in our community who cannot afford air conditioning,” said Capt. Francko Higdon of the Salvation Army in Orange County. “There are a lot of people in our community who are in need of help, and these box fans will help them stay cool during the summer months. We’re very thankful to Entergy for these fans and helping our community.”

Entergy Texas Inc. delivered 1,300 box fans to charitable non-profit agencies this week, according to information from a press release. These agencies will then distribute the box fans to qualified low-income residents which they assist.

“The heat in Southeast Texas can be almost unbearable at times, especially for those without air conditioning at home,” said Vernon Pierce, vice president of customer service for Entergy Texas, in a press release. “With the demand for fans growing every year, we are please to provide box fans again this year so our customers may remain as comfortable as possible.”

Of the 1,300 fans to be distributed, a total of 150 were distributed in Orange County with the Salvation Army location in Pinehurst receiving 120 box fans and the United Christian Care Center in Vidor receiving 30.

Entergy Texas provides electricity service to more than 430,000 customers in 27 counties and has more than 2.8 million utility customers in Texas, Arkansas, Louisiana and Mississippi.
