Charles “Charlie” Russell Akers

Charles “Charlie” Russell Akers, 67, of Orange, passed away on January 5, 2017, at his home.

A memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, January 14, 2017, at First Presbyterian Church in Orange.

Born in Ogden, Utah, on June 12, 1949, he was the son of Paul Nathan Akers and Rachael Akers. Charlie was a chemist at DuPont/Invista for over 35 years. He enjoyed HAM Radio, fishing, woodworking, and photography. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church where he was an elder. He was a spiritual director and also did missionary work in prisons through Kairos Ministry. Charlie will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.

He was preceded in death by parents; and sisters, Paula Akers Gill, and Judy Akers Hannah.

He is survived by his loving wife of 47 years, Karen Ragland Akers; step-mother, Margaret Akers of Brandon, MS; siblings, Carol Akers Crain of Louisville, TN, Dorothy Akers Brady of Sherwood, AR, Kathy Akers Gray and Joyce Akers Walker, both of Brandon, MS, Elizabeth Akers Harrison of Pelahatchie, MS, Charles A. Manuel of Monroe, LA, and Michael A. Akers and Clifton P. Akers, both of Brandon, MS; sister-in-law, Becky Evans of St. George, UT; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to First Presbyterian Church at 902 Green Ave, Orange, TX 77630.
