Channelview overpowers Vidor, 49-28

CHANNELVIEW — Miscues and a high-powered opponent proved too much for the Vidor Pirates to overcome on Friday night.

The Vidor Pirates made a game of it in the second-half, but it proved to be too little, too late as the Channelview Falcons steamrolled past the Pirates 49-28.

The Falcons offense, led by quarterback Jalen Hurts, scorched the Pirates quick and often in the first quarter building a 21-0 lead with only 2 minutes having ticked off the game clock. By the end of the quarter, Channelview led 35-0 courtesy of Hurts’ two touchdown passes, 58 yards and 28 yards respectively, and two quarterback sneaks.

Just before half-time, the Pirates were finally able to put some points on the board as quarterback Kolbie Humble found the endzone.

Despite trailing 35-7 at the half, the Pirates did not quit as the teams traded scores during the second-half of the contest.

Following another Channelview touchdown, Trevor Duff scored on a 30 yard jaunt following a nice drive by the Pirates to make the score 42-14.

The Falcons (3-0) again quickly put points on the board, and Vidor, answered immediately as Duff took the kickoff return 70 yards for another Pirates touchdown.

The final score came in the middle of the fourth quarter as Blake Rowe scored on a 7 yard run which made the final score 49-28 following the Bridger Quirante extra point.

Vidor (1-2) will have a bye this coming Friday and will open District 22-5A play on Sept. 25 at Nederland (2-1).
