OFJH summary

The Orangefield fighting Bobcats hosted the Groves Braves Tuesday night for the first game of the season which turned out to be two extremely physical games.

The 7th graders came away victorious 18-14 being led Zachary Morrow and Naqualan Cormier on offense. Cormier had well over 100 yards rushing on the night scoring two long touchdowns on tosses for Morrow. The heavy lifting was done the offensive line led by Jaxon Briggs and Gunner Evans which allowed Fernando Sandoval to bulldoze his way through the defense for 45 hard fought yards. Morrow made great decisions all night at the quaterback position and hit Sawyer Alfaro on a 30 yard pass to keep the game winning drive alive. The defense stopped the Braves cold late in the fourth quarter to allow the Bobcats to take a knee and run out the clock and was led by Austin Rickenbrode, Colton Longron, Fernando Sandoval, and Zachary Morrow who had a crucial interception right before half time.

The 8th graders were in a boxing match all night long and ran out of gas at the end and came up short 20-6. The offense was led by Kane Smith, Lane Gipson, Kyle Michael, Mason Houghton and Dustin Helm. Gipson and Michael shared the load each rushing for about 65 yards with Houghton flashing his speed around the edge for nearly 50 yards. Kane showed some touch throwing a great ball to a wide open Jacob Worthy for 32 yards. Defense had a tall order tonight have to deal with a bulldozer of a running back all night long. They fought hard until the end flying to the football and were led by Kyle Michael, Lane Gipson, Logan Cheek, and Diego Garcia who man handled anyone who would dare step in front of him.

The Bobcats will host the Little Cypress Cubs next Thursday and look to continue their success and improving on what should be a fantastic year.
