Rocky receives donations from OCSO

A special officer will receive some special gifts in the near future to make his job a little easier and keep him safer.
Rocky is no ordinary police officer, he is part of the K-9 Unit at Vidor Police Department. He will receive a Police Dog Training Suit, a Level II Drug Dog Vest and several individual pieces of K-9 training items that did not have assets numbers from the Orange County Sheriff’s Office.
“We no longer have K-9 Units at Orange County Sheriff’s Office,” Sheriff Keith Merritt said. “Chief Tarver reached out to Vidor Police Department.”
Commissioner Jody Crump said he was all for approving the items to be donated to the Vidor Police Department.
Vidor Mayor Robert Viator said he was “cool with it” when asked what he thought about the donations.
“The K-9 Unit will assist in any way possible,” Viator said.
Detector dogs assist law enforcement in detecting illegal substances, such as narcotics or explosives, and substances such as gas that is often used in criminal activities.
