Keedye Edwards- Brooks was born and raised in Orange, Texas. She is married to another Orange native Larry D. Brooks Jr. and has three wonderful daughters, Kaylee, Kya and Marli.

She is a 1999 graduate of West Orange Stark high school and attended the Huston-Tillotson University in Austin, Texas where she earned her bachelor’s degree in Biology/Education.

She continued her education by attending Lamar State College – Orange where she earned her LVN certificate.

What I admire about Brooks is her love for education as well as the youth in the community. When I saw her at the public library here in Orange, Texas and I observed her reading books to our young children, it really touched my heart.

“I am very passionate about working with young people and making a positive impact in their lives,” Brooks said.

Brooks states that she was incredibly shy her entire life.

“I never thought for a moment that I could stand before a crowd of even three people and express myself,” Brooks said.

Keedye Edwards-Brooks feels most empowered when she stands up for those who are voiceless. She says she feels emboldened by advocating for those in need for children.

“I have made several mistakes in my life, if I can help a young child prevent the same mistakes I made, I know I have done my job,” Brooks said. “My goal is to educate them and expose them to a multitude of POSITIVE experiences.”

“If we, as a whole, can come together and reach our children, then their chances of succeeding is high,” Brooks continued.

Brooks says she loves the career she has chosen to be in the nursing field, but she gets most joy uplifting our youth.

“Education is so important to our youth in our community. When you come from an impoverished neighborhood and climb your way out, you should want to reach back and attempt to break the cycle of poverty and lack of knowledge among them,” Brooks said.

“Our children deserve the reward of challenging themselves and what the world has to offer them,” Brooks said.

Keedye Edwards-Brooks attends Mount Olive church here in Orange where she serves as the Assistant Youth Director and Youth Matron. She enjoys spending time with her family and a good home cooked meal.
