Boardwalk Grille ground lease approved

On Tuesday the Orange City Council unanimously approved a resolution granting the Ground Lease Agreement for the Boardwalk Grille project to be constructed along the waterfront at Fifth Street and Division Avenue adjacent to the River Front Pavilion.

At the June 26 City Council meeting Council Member Patrick Pullen had posed a question concerning who would be paying taxes if the Boardwalk Grille project was completed.

During the July 10 meeting Orange Economic Development Corporation Director Jay Trahan stated based on his research the Orange EDC will maintain ownership of the tax exempt land tract however the owner of the Boardwalk Grille would be responsible for paying taxes.

Pullen thanked City Manager, Dr. Shawn Oubre and Trahan for their work researching the issue and presenting their findings.

In other business the City Council unanimously approved an ordinance amending the official Future Land Use Map designating Lots 7, 8, and 9 of Blocks A of the L.T. Grubbs Subdivision also known at 1402, 1404, and 1406 10th Street as commercial use property.

Trahan also addressed the council and publicly praised City of Orange staff and departments for their expertise and hard work “retooling” the City of Orange July Fourth fireworks celebration on short notice due to inclement weather.

“Everyone worked together and made the move happen. The event turned out to be a real success.”

During the meeting Oubre publicly praised Trahan’s efforts coordinating the teamwork necessary to make the Fourth of July event a success.
