Stolen vehicle from Lake Charles recovered in Orange

PRESS RELEASE — On Tuesday, December 6th, 2016, at approximately 12:50 PM, the Lake Charles Police Department was contacted in reference to a stolen vehicle in the 900 block of Egret Street in Lake Charles. Investigation revealed that a Calcasieu Parish Correctional Center inmate, Jonathon Alexander, who was working at the Louisiana State Police, Troop D headquarters, had escaped and stolen the vehicle. The Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Department was notified of the escape and stolen vehicle and they began investigating the escape of Alexander.

Detective Larry Newingham with the Lake Charles Police Department obtained an arrest warrant for Jonathon Alexander for auto theft which was presented to Judge Michael Canaday, who signed the warrant with a bond of $15,000 dollars.

On Wednesday, December 7th, 2016, at approximately 9:47 AM, the Lake Charles Police Department was contacted by the Orange, Texas Police Department, who advised that Officer B. P. Latiolais had recovered the stolen vehicle unoccupied in their city.

Detectives traveled to the Orange Police Department and met Detective Sergeant Patrick McDonald, and learned that Jonathon Alexander was apprehended in a second stolen vehicle in the city of Orange, Texas.

The Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Department was contacted to take custody of Alexander as an escapee to be returned to the Calcasieu Parish Correctional Center.
