Vidor man killed in auto/pedestrian collision

PRESS RELEASE — According to preliminary reports, a 2008 Dodge pickup truck was traveling northbound on FM 105 near Arrington Lane in Orange County. For an unknown reason, the driver of the vehicle crossed the center line into the southbound traffic lane. The vehicle continued off the roadway, through the bar ditch and struck a pedestrian clearing debris near a private fence line. The pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the passenger vehicle was transported to a local hospital with minor injuries.

The Texas Department of Public Safety has confirmed the identity of the pedestrian killed in a motor vehicle crash that occurred earlier today in Orange.  The deceased is 77-year-old Jerry Neal Campbell of Vidor, Texas.
The driver of the Dodge pickup truck, 38-year-old Michael Lynn Davis of Kountze, received minor injuries and was transported to a local hospital.
At the time of the crash, Michael Davis attempted to flee the scene but was quickly detained and has subsequently been placed under arrest for failure to stop and render aid.

This is an ongoing crash investigation and there are no further details to be released.
