Each year, the International Economic Development Council designates a week in May to recognize economic development efforts across the globe.

From May 6 – 10, we will celebrate the historic economic growth throughout Orange County.

On April 30, the Orange County Commissioners Court will present a proclamation to the Orange County Economic Development Corporation for their ongoing efforts to promote business opportunities in Orange County.

Multiple Chambers of Commerce ribbon cuttings throughout the county are scheduled during the week, highlighting the active Southeast Texas business climate.

On Wednesday/May 8, 11 a.m. – 1 p.m. at the Orange County Convention & Expo Center, located at 11475 FM1442, the Orange County Economic Development Corporation is hosting a free luncheon, sponsored by Golden Triangle Polymers and Local First, to celebrate the positive momentum felt across the county.

“During Economic Development Week, our goal is to celebrate the impact of economic growth in our communities. From creating jobs and fostering growth, to enhancing infrastructure and promoting prosperity, economic development is the driving force behind our collective success that paves the way for future businesses and entrepreneurs,” explained Megan Layne, Orange County Economic Development Corporation Executive Director.

Larry McManus, Office of the Governor – Texas Economic Development Tourism Director, Community & Business Development, is the keynote speaker and will talk about the favorable business climate in Orange County and throughout the State of Texas.

Following remarks by Orange County Judge John Gothia and McManus, a panel will discuss minority-owned business certifications.

Increasingly, industry is placing an emphasis on doing work with and supporting certified minority-owned businesses. Having a minority-owned business certification can also assist your company in competing for government contracts.

There are a variety of third-party entities that offer these types of certifications — ranging from no cost to costly national designations.

The public is invited to attend the luncheon and learn more about this important economic development tool and if a minority-owned business certification is right for your company.

Come celebrate with us! The luncheon is free to attend, but you must register at https://www.eventcreate.com/e/econdevluncheon. Contact Kristie with questions at kyoung@co.orange.tx.us.
