ORANGE — Early voting has begun for a school board election, a municipal race and a multi-million dollar proposition in Orange County to be decided in conclusion on Election Day, May 4.

Proposition A

“The adoption of a local sales and use tax in Orange County Emergency Services District No. 1 at a rate not to exceed one and one-half percent (1.5%) in any location in the district.”

Proposition A

“The issuance of $72 million bonds for the construction, acquisition, renovation, expansion, improvement and equipment of school buildings in the district including (I) construction of a new North Early Learning Center and (II) district-wide security and site improvements and the purchase of new school buses; and the levying of a tax to pay the principal and the costs of any related credit agreements. This is a property tax increase.”

Early voting times, dates

• April 22 to April 26 – 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
• April 29 to April 30 – 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.
• Election Day is May 4.

According to the Orange County Elections Department, there were 379 votes cast Monday on the first day of early voting.

This isn’t the election in the near future. There is also the Republic Primary run-off between Dade Phelan and David Covey.

Early voting in the primary run-off is from May 20 to May 24 for the May 28 election.

Who can vote in Republican Primary run-off

Voters must reside in District 21 and any person who voted in the Republic Primary is eligible to vote in the run-off.

Any Democrat that did not vote in the Primary can switch affiliation and vote in the runoff. The party switch will not be permanent and only affects the Primary runoff.

In November the ballot is open and all candidates will be on the ballot, he added.
