An out of control grass fire Saturday required the assistance of multiple fire departments and the Orange County Sheriff’s Office.

Orange County Emergency Services District No. 1 was notified of the fire in the 3500 block of FM1131, and a shift responded with a squad, brush truck and a tanker, according to information from the district.

The approximate three-acre pasture fire rapidly spread and was coupled with gusts up to 15 mph, low humidity and an already saturated ground, making it difficult to contain.

Several fire fighting vehicles became stuck and had to be removed.

The fire continued to spread crossing several property lines and grew to eight acres in size, according to ESD No. 1.

EDS No. 1 received mutual aid from ESD No. 2, ESD No. 3, ESD No. 4 and Pinehurst Fire Department.

“At one point every brush fire truck in Orange County except the City of Orange was being utilized,” according to an Orange County ESD NO. 1 Facebook post.

Orange County Sheriff’s Deputy Joey Jacobs was called, and his drone was utilized for an aerial view of the fire.

Texas Forestry Service deployed a dozer and foot crew, and Allegiance EMS was on scene for medical coverage.

Orange County ESD No. 1 was busy Friday, as well, responding to a structure fire in the 800 block of Sparrow Street.

A small, single-story home was showing smoke and flames when firefighters arrived, but fire crews were able to quickly extinguish the fire, according to information from Fire Chief Robert L. Smith.

The structure suffered minor damage, and no injuries were reported.

ESD No. 1 was assisted by ESD NO. 4.

The cause of the fire appears to be electrical in nature, Smith said.
