A group, Community180, plans to protest hate through love this weekend during the event Love Wins Weekend.

“We are going into the community and performing random acts of kindness, all while remaining socially distant, masked, and gloved,” Founder of Community180 David Richard said. “We are coming to five cities in three days.”

On Friday July 10, the group will be in Beaumont, Port Arthur and Orange. On Saturday, they will continue in Houston and on Sunday, July 12, they will be in Austin, Texas. The event will wrap up on Saturday, July 18 in Los Angles, California.

In each city they will pass out sack lunches. Randomly pay for individuals’ gas, groceries or for services such as nails, haircuts, and beauty salon visits.

“We’d love to do more however we are limited,” Richard said. “Here’s the good part, most of the funds to do this has come by way of Facebook friends… YES!!! We are using the good of social media to reach the community and spread love this weekend.”

The recent news of hate and protesting turning violent made Richard question if there was a better way to fight hate.

“Listen! We have been told for years to do our good deeds in private but that’s has gotten us to this place,” Richard said. “We should LOVE OUT LOUD. Why should love be silent when hate is screamed at each of us. We must protest hate with love. We have a responsibility to love others, as it is the way to truly measure how much we love ourselves.”
