NFL superstar Earl Thomas III of the Baltimore Ravens wanted to do his part in these challenging times by giving back to his community in Orange, Texas.

“There is a lot going on in the world and I just wanted to do my part by giving back,’’ Earl Thomas said.

His mother, Missionary Debbie Thomas, and his brother, Seth Thomas, helped organize “Free Lunch Giveaway” June 13, 2020. They had fourteen vendors who donated meals to the public and awesome giveaways and door prizes.

Chick-fil-A, Taco Bell, Case Ole, Dairy Queen, Domino’s Pizza, The Hut, Bluebirds, Chili’s, Chaddrick Jermaine, Brian Nickerson (Bam’s Cajun Crawfish), Xavier King Alexander (Holy Smoke), Mackolas Toler (Greazy Lipz), Seth Hancock (Wing Junkies), and Earl V’s Snocones were the vendors that helped to make a successful event.

The practice of social distancing was enforced and everyone had a great time bringing the children out to the event. I asked Thomas what he saw lacking the most in the black communities.

“That is tough, that is a very tough question.  We need to give black people an opportunity.  All we need is a CHANCE in the black communities.  Give us a chance to do something to grow in OUR communities,” he explained to me.

His goal was to make sure he could give back in his hometown and be a great way to give back in challenging times with COVID-19 and BLACK LIVES MATTER protests.  He wanted to shed a positive light in the communities in Orange, Texas.

The event was held on 10th street and was very successful.  It started at 11 a.m. and ended around 2 p.m.  The mission was to do something great and positive in the community and Thomas did that with all of the amazing people who made it a success also.

It is very important, especially in challenging times as these, to show love, be safe and be healthy.  It is by our good deeds and kind words that truly make a difference in our communities. Thank you, Earl Thomas III, for the event and we pray everyone will continue to give back just as you did. The City of Orange appreciates you and thank you for being such a great example of your hometown ORANGE, TEXAS!
