PRESS RELEASE — At 9:17am the Newton County Sheriff’s Office received a 911 call in reference to a fatal shooting.

The shooting occurred on County Road 1020 in the Jamestown Community in Newton County.

The deceased and the shooter are cousins and have had a long running feud.

The Newton County Sheriff’s Office is being assisted in the investigation by the Newton Police Department.

Justice of the Peace Pct 2, Brenda Smith, has held the inquest and has ordered an autopsy.
