PRESS RELEASE —  Hope everyone had a good week. We have been bowed up. Let’s see what’s been going on.

Gonna be a new Sheriff in town. Congrats to Robert. Him and Cynthia ran a good race. Please remember Cynthia and all her family as her sister, Carol, is very critical and in Hospice care in Jasper. Carol has been in very bad shape for a couple of weeks.

Arrested Michael Toby Peck in the murder of Randy Holmes. Holmes went missing in November of 2017. A very intense murder investigation by the Newton Police Chief and Chief Deputy Hall ended with Peck’s attorney turning him over to Newton County.

A couple of hours after Peck made bond and got out of jail, his home was on fire. Several local fire departments responded. House was a total loss. State Fire Marshall and Joe Haralson with the Rangers assisting in the investigation.

Received a call where a man broke another man’s arm with an ax handle. Man in Orange County Jail on aggravated assault. Good job to Deputy Laird getting bad guy located.

Report of a drunk man on a lawn mower. I can’t mow a straight line sober much less drunk.

Please be careful paying someone for work on your home until the work is completed. A friend got hit for $2200 worth of plumbing and got nothing. We’re trying to help.

We had a break in on FM 2626 where lots of things were stolen. 2 laptops, safe, play station, jewelry and wedding rings. Any help would be appreciated.

Gotta go, have court. Thought for the week: The best about the good old days was that I wasn’t good, and I wasn’t old. Ya’ll have a good week and if we can help, just holler. God Bless.
