Cardinals rope Kelly in opener; host BC tourney Thursday-Saturday

BRIDGE CITY – The Bridge City baseball team got off to a superb start to the 2020 season by belting the Kelly Bulldogs 10-1 in their season opener at Chuck Young Stadium Monday night.

Payton Havard tossed five innings to earn the win as he struck out nine. Jaxon Luna came in and picked up three strikeouts in relief.

The Cardinals finished with six hits while the Bulldogs had four. Both team made four errors.

Logan Hamm and Jackson Tims each had two runs batted in for the Cardinals. Bridge City scored three of its runs in the second and four more in the fifth.

The Bridge City Cardinals and Bridge City High School will play host to the Bridge City Baseball Tournament Thursday, Feb. 27 through Saturday, Feb. 29

Games slated for Thursday includes Nederland vs. Kelly (11 a.m.); Bridge City vs. Buna (1:30 p.m.); Orangefield vs. Nederland (4 p.m.); and Vidor vs. Orangefield (6:30 p.m.).

Games scheduled for Friday includes Vidor vs. Buna (11 a.m.); Vidor vs. Kelly (1:30 p.m.); Bridge City vs. Orangefield (4 p.m.); and Nederland vs. Bridge City (6:30 p.m.).

Games Saturday will be Buna vs. Kelly (11 a.m.); Bridge City vs. Vidor (1:30 p.m.); and Bridge City vs. Nederland (4 p.m.).
