Lady Mustangs stymie Lady Cardinals

WEST ORANGE – The West Orange-Stark Lady Mustangs notched a decisive 39-28 District 22-4A victory over the Bridge City Lady Cardinals at Mustang Gym Friday night to remain in a third-place tie with Silsbee in the standings.

The Lady Mustangs ((16-10, 5-3), built a 24-16 lead by halftime over the Lady Cardinals (16-11, 2-5) and then held Bridge City to just 12 second half points.

B’Jne Arvie had a huge double-double for the Lady Mustangs, scoring 18 points and snagging 10 rebounds.

Lady Mustang Marlandria Hebert dominated the glass, yanking down a whopping 18 rebounds to go along with nine points and six steals.

Aniah Henderson contributed seven points and seven boards while Keshaunia Winbush had seven assists and six boards and Gabby Tims also dished out seven assists.

The Lady Cardinals will play host to Silsbee Tuesday. The Lady Mustangs have a bye Tuesday and will visit Silsbee next Friday.

Silsbee (16-9, 5-3) notched a nice 60-54 win over Lumberton second-place (20-10, 6-2) to tighten up the race for the second through fourth-place playoff berths.

Hardin-Jefferson (20-8, 7-0) leads the way.
